Last night I was part of an experimental art show curated by SEZIO in which a handful of local artists were challenged to create art in different style to their own. At first I thought it would be really easy to create something entirely different than what I am used to. But after hours of painting, I hated just about everything I had created. I decided to scrap the abstract looking canvas I was struggling with and grab a pencil and paper instead. When all else fails, that is what I turn to. I found this pretty girl via Kelly Ann on PINTEREST while scrounging for inspiration. Her hair blew my mind and I knew I just HAD to draw her. This was the first time I have taken a photo and turned it into an illustration. It is far more realistic than my typical artwork, but it definitely still has “me” written all over it. (braids, polka dots and red lips? ) ha! I used a bit of watercolor to finish up the sketch because I felt it needed a pop of color. I am sure those who were challenged to guess who made what at the show did not have a problem picking out mine! I think I may do a mini series of portraits like these! Wouldn’t that be fun!? This one actually already sold at the show, but I am already itching to do more. If you have any photos pinned that you think would be great illustrated, share them in the comments! Happy Monday!
