Rylee: Marcel Tee / Nico Nico Skirt (similar) / Chankklas Sandals   Me:  Nico Nico Stevie Dress  /  Rich Hippie Design Necklace

Hello Summer.  How we love you.  Rylee and I are probably our happiest when we are out in the sunshine, toes in the sand or swimming in a pool, preferably with a watermelon in hand :)  We’re both wearing outfits from an adorable shop out of Australia called Tiny People.  They carry some of my favorite kid’s brands as well as a carefully curated selection for mama’s too!  My dress and Rylee’s skirt are by Nico Nico.  To say they’re comfortable would be an understatement!  I can’t get Ry to NOT wear this skirt.  It’s the first “maxi” she’s ever owned, and let me tell ya, it’s a hit.  Apparently maxi’s are right up there in the running with her princess dresses… obviously, I’m pretty stoked about that.  And I’ve shamelessly been wearing this dress 2-3 times a week and will probably continue to do so as long as this heat sticks around!  Sam and I have been super busy these last couple of weeks prepping for our tradeshow with Rylee and Cru.  August 1st is creeping up real fast!  Who knew running a kids line would take SO MUCH WORK!? haha.  I guess I kind knew what I was getting into….but man, it’s more than I expected.   But our little team is making it happen (with our fair share of mistakes)….but we are growing and learning and I’m excited about the future of this little brand I’ve started.  God willing it will be something I will be able to do and support my family with for years to come!

Me : d.RA Mars Dress // Pons Avarcas  // 2 Bandits necklace & Scarecrow Open Cuff // Art Hide Clutch via Tiny People

Ry : Popupshop dress via Apple Baby  //  Pons Avarcas sandals // Rylee + Cru Backpack // Sons + Daughters glasses

Come  summer, my wardrobe tends to turn very white.  And no one does white better than d.RA in my opinion.  Their Mars Dress is the epitome of a perfect summer dress…breezy and lightweight (and white!) with a hint of lace.  And my love for midi’s continues….

Pons Avarcas have been on my radar for months and Ry and I were lucky enough to receive our first pair, in matching brown of course.  I am likely going to match with her for as long as she is still cool with it.  And at the rate she is growing….I think I just have a few more years of fun, if  I’m lucky!  I swear, there are moments that I look at her and think, ‘where on earth did my baby girl go?!’  I get glimpses of her as a teenager and it totally freaks me out…with all her wit and sass.  Good Lord.  I see so much of myself in her lately, and it excites and scares me all the same!

Hope you all had a great weekend!  It’s going to be a busy few weeks for me preparing for our very first tradeshow in NY with Rylee & Cru!  I’ve been a mad woman staying up into the wee hours of the night finalizing our SS16 collection.  Can’t wait to show you guys what I’ve been up to!

Parker One Piece

A few photos from the weekend.  Lolli sent me this amazing one piece that I’m totally in love with.  It’s the first one piece I’ve ever owned actually!  I used to think one pieces were only for “moms”….haha.  Hey, guess what younger self, I’m a mom!  And my stomach doesn’t look exactly the same as it used to but I have two sweet babes to thank for that.  Anyway, onepieces forever! ;)

Hope you had a great 4th!  We snuck out of the house early with the kids, grabbed some donuts at our favorite spot, and headed to the beach for the morning.  Any fourth of July not spent at the beach just feels wrong.  We are so lucky we live so close.  Sam got in a surf and Cru ate some sand…..all in all, it was a great day ;)  Of course we ended it with a BBQ with some friends & fam and watched a far-off firework show from our front lawn.  Rylee is still petrified of fireworks, so she was inside on the couch with a blanket over her head crying the whole time. haha!  Apparently I was the same way when I was a kid.  Hopefully she grows out of that one soon because what is Fourth of July without fireworks!?

God bless America.

My favorite go-to hair style in the summer is loose beachy waves.  I used to try to achieve this with a large barreled curling iron, but it’s become a whole lot easier (and more natural looking) with my new XO Styling Iron.  This iron was a collaborative design between Cara of A Fashion Love Affair, and the team at Mode.  What I love most about it is it’s ability to straighten or curl, depending on the look you are wanting.  My hair is as straight as it comes.  It’s pretty thin and super fine, and doesn’t tend to hold a curl very well.  So for me, beachy waves take a little work!  Needless to say, with 2 kids and a work-from-home job, this doesn’t happen every day :)  But the good part is that once I do it, it can last a few days with minor touch ups!  Below I’ve outlined the few simple steps I take to make this look stick, in case you want to give it a try!1_xo_8

What I use:

XO Styling Iron // Not Your Mother’s Texturizing Sea Salt Spray & Clean Freak Dry Shampoo // Finishing Spray // Teasing Brush

I usually like to do these beach waves the day after I wash my hair because I like to start with it pretty dry.  I first use Clean Freak Dry Shampoo on my roots to soak up any excess oil.  This stuff works wonders and leaves my hair smelling fresh!

Then I back comb the hair at the crown of my head with my teasing brush to give it some volume.  And usually give it a few shots of hairspray to hold it in place.

Then it’s time to curl.  It is a little different technique curling your hair with a flat iron versus a round one, so it took me a few tries to get the hang of it at first.  The key is to keep it moving to avoid any weird kinks!  Separate out a small section of hair, clamp your iron down near the root, flip the iron once away from your face, and glide the iron slowly down your hair until you reach the end.  Repeat until everything is curled!

Now I run my fingers through the curls to loosen them a bit and spray in my  Texturizing Sea Salt Spray to give it more of a natural / imperfect look.  Like I jumped out of the ocean and let it air dry (i wish!).  I just scrunch up the curls and and shake it out….and there ya have it! :)

If you’ve lost some of the volume at the root by the end of all this, just go in and back brush a little more!

Perfect summer waves thanks to the XO Styling Iron!  Use code Kelli15 to get 15% off your purchase!

I also get a lot of questions about my hair color and how I keep it so bright and white.  I have my sister to thank for that!  She’s been doing my hair for over 10 years.  I actually had her write a blog post for me about it years ago.  You can read it HERE…..and we still use the same process and products today.

JUST now getting around to posting more photos from our vacation to Sedona a few weeks back.  Where does the time go!?  Jeesh.  I was just looking at my calendar and planning the month out and realizing it is JULY!  Next month Rylee will be four!  And right on it’s tail is Cru’s first birthday in September! ONE YEAR!  Are you kidding? It honestly feels like we just brought him home from the hospital!  I mean, he definitely looks like he should be turning one soon (we lovingly call him ‘Chunker’ because of his impressive ‘girth’).  But the fact that he has been in our lives one whole year already is almost unbelievable to me.  And they say time keeps going faster as you get older??  That’s hard to imagine.  But I guess I believe it because it’s proven true so far.  ANYWAY!  Life is so busy….it’s trips like this that I need to slow down and take it all in.  We met up with a few friends at a house in the middle of the most breathtaking red rocks I’ve ever seen. A second home in Sedona is now on my ‘i wish’ wishlist.  The first night we were there there was a big thunderstorm that rolled through.  But the next morning we woke up to the most beautiful clear sky and backyard view.  (those last family photos were our backyard!)  We just enjoyed time with each other in the great outdoors.  We took a hiking trail that led us to a little swimming hole in the middle of all the trees.  The water was brown due to all the rain the night before…..but of course, that didn’t stop Rylee from wanting to go in.  Sam got to shoot some guns and go off-roading in an FJ with the guys…so that pretty much made his trip ;)  All in all is was a good time.

Note to self:  Life’s too short.  Let’s do this more.
