INSPIRING WORKSPACES

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

I am in the process of decorating my home office…FINALLY…after about 2 years of living here.  Sad right?  But I suppose late is better than never.  I have gotten comfortable with my bare walls and lone computer desk.  It gets the job done but I am in desperate need of some inspiration. Here are a few workspaces I am inspired by.  Can you tell I am into the vintage industrial craze? However, I can tell you right now my office will NEVER be as clean as the ones pictured.  My creative process tends to get a bit “cluttered”!  I am loving all things Restoration Hardware.  I actually just gave in and bought the drafting table I have been obsessing over for the past few months (last picture).  I am anxiously awaiting it’s delivery so that I don’t have to draw hunched over on the floor anymore.  Although I am worried I have gotten so used to it that a big beautiful drafting table just might never get it’s use! (Nonsense!  It will be perfect.)

WALLPAPER FEVER

Friday, May 14th, 2010

I have caught it!  I don’t know why but lately I have been LOVING wallpaper.  I am itching to do a room in my house…I just have not landed on the print.  Here are a few of my favorite finds:

HERMITAGE

Their selection is to die for.  They have something for everyone…from quirky illustrated patterns to soft and tonal prints. Pattern Tales is seriously calling my name.

ANTHROPOLOGIE

Another “go-to” for wallpaper.   (although I guess you could say they are a “go-to” in every department right!?).

There is just something about Sweet Pea…dark yet delicate.

And lastly! If you are nervous about covering an entire wall with a bold pattern….why not frame it?  This is the route I might go for my living room!  Now it is a matter of finding some cool large scale frames! Oh my, a home is an endless process isn’t it?

DIY_VINTAGE COVERED BOOKS

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Bam and I have had a good Saturday.  He is a good craft project partner, although his paws don’t handle modg podge too well. haha.

I just got a new bookcase for my living room and I LOVE IT! But it is huge….and empty.  Since I have recently become a little obsessed with vintage books, Sam and I took a trip to a few antique stores in search for some cool decorative books for the bookshelf.  We definitely found some good ones….but once we put them on the shelf, we realized we needed A LOT more.  Here is where I started thinking….DIY.

DIY:

I took a handful of my more “modern looking” books and gave them a new face.  Or I guess you could say an “old face”.  At one of the antique stores I found a newpaper dated back to the year I was born, 1984.  It was yellowed and coffee stained and torn on the edges….so just perfect!  I also found an old hymn book from 1964 who’s paper I thought would look great paired with the newspaper.  I had some leftover burlap and ivory linen fabrics laying around the house, so with a few of the books I added labels with the fabrics.  All the supplies needed were mod podge, a bit of tacky glue, and a sponge stick.  Nothing fancy, but it gave my bookshelf a bit more of the vintage “used” look I was hoping for!
