HELP HEAL JAPAN

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

I know we were all pretty rocked by the recent disaster in Japan.  It makes me think about the fragility of life, and how something like this could happen to any one of us, at any time.  My heart goes out to all of the people affected by this catastrophe.  It’s hard to watch what’s happening and hear the stories without wanting to help.  Here is one way you can.

Jedidiah, in collaboration with Bulldog Drummond, has created a limited edition t-shirt collection to help heal Japan.  I designed the women’s graphic “Heart”, shown above, as well as the graphic below, “Headband”.  Both can be purchased on Jedidiah’s online store, along with a handful of other charitable tee options to choose from for both guys and girls.  $15.00 from every shirt purchase will be donated to the World Vision/Japan Disaster Relief fund.  Together, we can make a difference!

And here are a few other ways people are making a difference in Japan through their art.

STANLEY & SONS

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

While digging through the archives of FFFOUND in search of some logo inspiration, I stumbled upon this amazing company based out of New York: STANLEY & SONS.  I am a sucker for good branding and utilitarian design, so their website lured me in right away.  I love this simplicity and creativity of this logo.  It actually makes me want to brand MYSELF better.  Something that has been on my “to-do” list for far too long now.  I can’t remember the last time I updated my website with my latest work.  I find it so much easier to brand other people than to brand myself.  But anyway… I digress.  The original Apron and Bag Supply Company was a manufacturer of factory aprons and bags operated by Stanley Grodzki.  Chris Grodzki followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and opened Stanley & Sons Apron and Bag Co. in 2008.  Each piece is handmade one at a time and all aprons and bags are made to order.  I love that there are businesses out there that still run like this.  Sam (my husband) and I have talked about starting a small business like this together one day.  Creating one of a kind jewelry designs and selling them to local shops and boutiques.  It never hurts to dream.

And speaking of utilitarian design, forthcoming brand PUBLISH is one to keep an eye on (boys…if any of you are reading).  They continue to re-innovate militarian wear with classic jazz inspirations for Fall 2011 titled “Classic Improvisation.”  They have been a source of inspiration while I’ve been busy designing new silhouettes for JEDIDIAH.
