On Wednesday, October 29th the Tap Room hosted “The L.A.B” (local art and beer) in which i was invited to exhibit a handful of new work.  The night was a hit. Local DJ Corey Biggs was mixing the beats while the Tap Room Pale Ale buzzed the crowd for only $3.50! It was great to see so many familiar faces come out for the night…both friends of old and those more recent.  So thanks to everyone who made it!

My art will be displayed at the Tap Room until the end of November…so if you’d like to swing by and check it out…most of the work is still up for sale.

Ever heard of Joan?? Well i must say…she is quite the underground talent.  The last few months i have been working on some new merch design for her latest album “To Survive”.  I have quickly become a fan of Joan and her wonderfully unique sound.  Joan is a singer/songwriter, violinist, and pianist from New York City. After starting her solo career about 2 years ago, Joan has earned raves on her emotional, punk-informed take on American soul music. Here is what she has said regarding her latest album :

“The song is written from her voice,” (her mother who died during the creation of the album) she says. “It’s about her singing to me when I was a kid — you know, a young girl — being fearful of whatever was under my bed or whatever, and singing me to sleep and soothing my childhood fears. And then it’s about her going out into the other room and being with her own thoughts, and really contemplating the fact that she has the same fears as I do. You just, as an adult, learn to deal with them however you do.”

On October 18th, Keep-a-Breast presented “San Diego’s Finest”. An art and fashion show featuring hand painted KAB casts, all to benefit Breast Cancer Research.  

Keep-a-Breast’s mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support. Through art events, educational programs and fundraising efforts we seek to increase breast cancer awareness among young people so they are better equipped to make choices and develop habits that will benefit their long-term health and well-being.

September 4-6 at ASR Jedidiah, TOMS shoes, and the Glue Network joined forces to take part in the “Give Love Back” campaign. Here is what went down.  

Spectators were given the opportunity to slip on a pair of TOMS shoes, dip them in paint, and dance to the DJ’s beats.  The boards in which they danced upon served as the foundation for our paintings.  Twelve artists were each given a 4′ X 8′ wooden panel to paint upon…keeping in mind the theme of “giving love back”.  As artists took turns in creating their work…DJ’s and live musicians kept the tunes flowing all day long. All the artwork is up for silent auction and will be sold to the highest bidder. Join us at Swiv Tackle Circus on September 27th from 6-10PM for the unveiling the the completed 12 panels!

At 1PM on Friday we held the Jedidiah fashion show…featuring product from our Fall08 and Spring09 catalogs.  A good crowd gathered to watch the show….see the pics below.

In the tradition of pairing contrasts in order to create new mediums of expression, ISM: a community project presents, “SK8OLOGY” an exhibition that combines skateboard counter culture with the world of fine art.

Held on Saturday August 23, 2008 the ISM gallery hosted the opening exhibition, showcasing over 150 creative deck canvases from some of the most poignant and significant active artists and professional skaters. The show  travels now to San Diego September 4-6 for the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) Trade Show and off to Florida September 12-14 for the Surf Expo.

Contributing artists and professional skaters donated their creative deck canvases to raise awareness and resources in an effort to support Now That You Know, a non-profit organization that helps to provide ambitious girls from developing countries a secure environment for learning and growth. Proceeds also contributed to benefiting the youth of our society through the artistic enrichment of our community.

We at Jedidiah have been HARD at work the past few months developing our Spring 2009 line. I am proud to say it’s the best one yet! …and wanted to give you all a sneak peek into what you can expect to see in stores next season.  August 25th-27th we head to the MAGIC show in Las Vegas.  The MAGIC Marketplace is the preeminent trade event in the international fashion industry, hosting global buyers and sellers of men’s, women’s and children’s apparel, footwear, accessories and sourcing resources.  MAGIC is where new trends surface and develop into what will be seen on the consumer.  The Jedidiah booth will be located in the section S.L.A.T.E  (Select, Lifestyle, Apparel, Trends, Emergence); a 40,000 square foot juried fashion forward event to showcase established and emerging skate, surf and street lifestyle brands.  This is the first year for magic to launch this new section and we are excited to be a part of it!

Closely following Magic on September 4th-6th, we head to the ASR convention in San Diego to showcase the new line. ASR brings together thousands of the top retailers ranging from surf, skate, snow and swim shops, to fashion boutiques and mass chain stores and distributors from around the world. Check back for updates on these events!!

La Chureca Exhibit - A photographic journey through the trash dump of Managua,Nicaragua presented by Common Grounds in Waco, Texas.

On April 26th i took part in an event in Waco Texas called the “La Chureca Exhibit”. La Chureca is a town in the heart of Managua, Nicaragua. The city trash dump has become the home of hundreds of people who depend on the garbage for their livelihood, their food, and their shelter. In March, I took a trip to the dump with a non-profit organization called Love Light and Melody who is dedicated to battling the physical, emotional, and spiritual effects of extreme poverty here. This is where I met Jill Nashburn, owner of Common Grounds : a thriving coffee shop and music venue in Waco, Texas. In attempts to raise awareness about the trash dump communities and fight social injustice…she gathered together artists, musicians, and photographers from all over to join forces for an event she called “La Chureca Exhibit”.

Austin Blasingame (a fellow artist and friend from Florida whom i also met in Nicaragua) met up with me in Texas to paint a large scale mural for the event. We wanted the mural to focus on community and bringing people together; sharing love and breathing life into the hearts of others. Love, acceptance, and hope is what gives us wings and helps us fly.

See this video documenting our time there….On March 6, 2008, a flood of people, music, and kites invaded the trash dump in Managua, Nicaragua, where nearly 1,500 people live, work, and make their homes. I was fortunate enough to join the team from Love Light and Melodywho traveled to Nicaragua to celebrate the second annual Dia De Luz which was created to break down emotional, physical, and cultural barriers, while reawakening the dreams, imagination, and hope of the people who live there.
