TINA AND BRIAN

Over the weekend I was super busy with commissioned illustrations! Three are still three in the works but ONE I was able to finish!  That being the Save the Date Postcard for adorable couple Brian and Tina.  Tina gave me some inspiration, drawing from the look of the STD I designed for my own wedding, along with a handful of photos to reference (I even included their precious pup Izzy!).

They are getting married at the incredible Smog Shoppe in Culver City, LA.  I have only seen photos of this place but it seems like the perfect wedding spot.  I’ve heard it described as sort of a mix of Paris meets Anthropologie meets a thrift store meets Flora Grubb.  Fabulous!

MISS VAN: SHE-WOLVES

I can remember back when I first began painting, Miss Van was one of my biggest inspirations. Being first introduced to the graffiti world of art, Miss Van was one of the first female graffiti artists (along with Fafi) who’s style captivated me.  Her strong illustration skills, use of color, and mysterious female characters were like nothing I had ever seen.

In the early 90’s, at the age of 18, Miss Van (Vanessa Alice Bensimon) began painting in the streets of her hometown of Toulouse, France. Over the years her characters (poupées as they are called) evolved on the streets and grew their own personal style full of colour, eroticism, voluptuousness and ambiguity. Her recognizable style and techniques quickly made her one of the most well known names in the global graffiti and street art scenes.

Over the years she has focused more and more on her painting and the development of her characters, continually evolving and experimenting with new techniques, colors and concepts, and always referring to her own life and experiences. Just as she continues to grow so too do her poupées.

Her recently launched online shop with Barcelonian artist Anaoana is now up and live, showcasing their fabulous line of clothing and accessories.  I think I want everything.

Also check out her new fine art shop Princesas Market.  Here you’ll find prints, postcards and signature jewelry!

JACQUELINE KARI BOS

I am in love with the work of Jackie Kari Bos!  She is a freelance designer and illustrator in New York City who combines found imagery with hand drawings to create whimsical illustrative work. I love her soft color palate and the way her illustrations come together to tell a story.  She recently created a book titled “I Heart  the Arctic”…. an illustrated book about the arctic, Inuit myths, Eskimo hoods, seals, and all things chilly.  I need to order myself a copy!

Her artwork and accessories can be purchased on her ETSY store.

….and many more inspirational images can be found on her FLICKR account.
