Archives: May 2011

Late again.  I can’t seem to keep up with this blog…or life for that matter.  It is all flying by so fast.  I can’t believe I am going on 24 weeks already in this pregnancy! I was talking to my mom the other day about how I couldn’t believe it has already been 6 months, and she reminded me that not every month has 4 weeks in it (duh Kelli).  So no, 24 weeks does not mean 6 months, as I had thought.  However, it is very close! No wonder everyone counts by weeks.  I think only the right (creative) side of my brain works.  Numbers and me just don’t mesh.  Anyway….24 week bump.  There you have it.  It’s really coming along now.  I still have yet to get a comment from a stranger, but I will be happy when that day comes!

SOOO….I am kind of getting to the point where I have to stop just looking at cute baby clothes and nursery ideas and actually START the process of educating myself and figuring out what I really need.  It’s all just kind of overwhelming to me.  I need to do some serious research on all the “gear”, as I don’t know what the half of it is used for.  Despite having a sister with two babies, I feel very naive to this whole process and am not sure where to start.  I know my sis will help me with the registry process…which I should actually get going on in the next few weeks.  I don’t think I want a shower too late in my pregnancy.  I like the idea of having it a little early and then having time afterward to prepare and get all the things that were not gifted, that I might need.  Anyway, there is SO much to do!  Phase one of the nursery will be started next week with installing wood floors.  Thanks to my handy man husband.   OHHH…speaking of handy man husband, did I mention that I bought a crib off craigslist for $25!!? True story!  I know it sounds sketchy, but the crib is AMAZING!!  It is super old and vintage looking and wonderfully unique.  It just needs a coat of fresh paint and some sturying up and I think it will be just perfect.  Sure does beat my other, ridiculously expensive, versions I was hoping for.  Like THIS one…and THIS one.  I will have to do a before and after post to show you how it turns out! I’m getting so antsy to get started on it all!  If anyone has any good advice for an overwhelmed momma-to-be…please share! I could use all the help I can get.

Baby girl at 24 weeks.  One foot long and just over one pound. About the size of an ear of corn.

Hat – Vintage / Skirt – Free People / Top – Mimi Chica /  Shoes – Jeffrey Campbell 99 TIE

Yep.  Same skirt as my last lookbook post.  Pants and I are no longer friends. Skirts and leggings are all I want to wear.  But THIS skirt is still my favorite of the moment.  I like how it  can transition from a soft girly look to a more edgy rocker look.  Sometimes it’s fun to toughen up the pretty.  But I suppose black can do that to almost anything.

And here are just a few items I am loving as of late.

1.   Mink Pink Trim & Terrific Maxi Dress

2.  Tortoise Loren Shades

3.  Chloe Scalloped Triangle Bikini

4. Chain and Velvet Headband

5.  Jeffrey Campbell Cutout Oxford Wedge

6.  Jesse Kamm Rectangle Print Classic Tank Top

Ahhhh the weather the last few days!! It feels like summer has arrived and I am soaking up every second of it!  I’m not sure what it is, but I seem to be appreciating the sun more this season.  How it warms me up and makes me feel all happy and vibrant inside!  Or maybe it is the babe that is making me feel that way…..all i know is I love it!  It doesn’t happen often that I get my ENTIRE family down to the beach together….but today was my lucky day! They all headed up to Pipes in Encinitas, a beach just down the street from where Sam and I live.  The day couldn’t have been more glorious.  Our guys (husbands) surfed for hours while my sisters and I had fun with the kiddos.  Bruce is my little sister Kyleen’s oldest boy.  Age 2.  And Copper is her baby.  8 months.  I can’t get enough of them.  Playing with them makes me look forward to the day when I can take my little girl to the beach and play in the waves! …perhaps WITH her big boy cousins.

Ok honestly, WHERE did that belly come from!?  One more week until I am 6 months and BAM…the belly is exploding.  I suppose my time was coming…and well….it has arrived with force.  I can literally FEEL it growing.  My muscles and tendons are pulling and cramping and my skin is stretched tight.  My pants no longer button and leggings have become my daily uniform.  I think it’s time I take the plunge and buy some actual “maternity” pants to get me through the next three months.  If this week is any indication of the growth to come, I will certainly be needing a new wardrobe.  I don’t think I really even realized how big I had gotten until I saw this pic (above) that my mom snapped today at the beach.  I showed it to Sam and was like “Is my belly REALLY that big!?” He laughed….”Have you looked in the mirror lately?” Ha! I guess I hadn’t really noticed.   Reading my weekly update from Baby Center this morning, I laughed at all the things it said my body might be doing and feeling this week.  Right on schedule!  Swollen ankles and feet – CHECK.  More definite fetal activity – CHECK.  Hearty appetite – CHECK. Achy abdomen – CHECK.  Leg Cramps – CHECK.  Stretch Marks – not yet but buttering up with hopes that I might be one of the fortunate few to dodge them altogether. Pregnancy is awesome isn’t it!? Haha.
