SEQUIN DOTS & A BANG DILEMMA

I almost never wear sequins.  But when I spotted this polka-dot sequin top on sale at J.Crew, it was love at first sight.  Sequin polka-dots!?! I mean, common.  My favorite way to wear it is layered with a collar.

So…my bangs.  They are at the stage where I want to chop them off again.  This always happens.  I decide to grow them out, and every time they get to be just past my eyes, I can’t stand them anymore…..and off they go.  What do you say? Keep em or cut em?  I kind of miss my blunt cut.

THE 52 PROJECT

Inspired by Jodi of Che & Fidel, I’ve decided to join in on the 52 project…taking a portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2013.

Often times, my weeks fly by like the wind and I forget to pull out my camera (the real one) and capture it’s special moments, if any moment at all.  Rylee is at the age where every week I can see her changing, growing, learning.  I want to be able to look back on this year and literally watch her growth, frame by frame.  Usually I get a little nervous about challenges like this for fear of failure….but for me, this year is about following through on my goals!  I hope I don’t disappoint myself!  One day,  I think this will be pretty special for her to look at too.  It might turn out to be a really great way for me to get to know my camera a little better as well.  Maybe I will notice the growth in my photography too (wink).  I’m excited about this! Thanks for the inspiration Jodi.

A BOOKWORM + A 50MM LENS

People….I finally got a 50MM lens! It’s been a long time coming, but since I didn’t get it for Christmas…I bought it as a New Years gift to myself!  And let me tell you, the guy wasn’t joking when he said it was a good one.  I’ve always loved the look of photos with a really shallow depth of field (or a blurry background as I used to always refer to it as), but I could never achieve what I wanted with my kit lens.  My photography knowledge is still far from advanced, but it’s been a goal over the last couple of months to improve.  I have a lot of wonderful photography friends who have been kind enough to lend me their skills over the years….but it’s time I got down to business and really learned the tricks of the trade myself so I don’t have to always rely on someone else for quality pics.  I got the 50MM a few days ago and took it out for a spin for the first time yesterday.  Rylee is quite the little bookworm lately, so I wanted to capture her in her element.  I hope she always loves books as much as she does now.

Needless to say, I was thrilled with how the lens changed the dynamic of my photos!  I still don’t get why it’s so cheap, but I’m not complaining!  The only thing that took some getting used to was not having a zoom.  I left my aperture at 1.8 for all of these, with small changes in my shutter speed and ISO depending on the direction I was shooting.  I hardly even had to edit them.  I feel like this is the lens i’ve been waiting for all my life! haha.  Such a steal for just above 100 bucks!  I think this guy is here to stay.

p.s. – yes, it’s forever spring here in San Diego…

LA TIGRE

First style post of the new year! Yee! I’m so excited about 2013.  I love the feeling of a fresh start.  I’m good at making goals, but i’m pretty terrible at following through. (it’s bad, i know).  So this year, instead of just thinking about all that I want to accomplish, I’ve decided to actually make a physical list….hang it up, and look at it everyday to remember those things that I want to make a priority.  It sounds silly and simple, but I’ve never done it.  And I’m hoping it’ll help keep me on track.  What do you guys do to keep organized and focused on your goals?  Organization is a big part of my 2013 resolution list….it’s my weakness for sure.  I was totally motivated by this post I recently read by Lara Casey….you should check it out.

Goals aside, let’s talk about my tiger shirt. haha.  It’s obvious I have a cat problem. I think I might need this one too.
