How is it already back to school season!?? This summer seriously FLEW.  We had to make the tough decision earlier this year if we wanted to hold Ry back one more year in Pre-K or send her through to kindergarten.  Her birthday is August 19th, so she would have been the very youngest in her class if we were to send her through.  After chatting with her teacher and sitting on it a bit, we came to the decision that it would probably be best to let her have one more year in Pre-K.  For Rylee, this decision wasn’t really an academic one, as we felt she was more than equipped there.  It was more an emotional / social one.  Ry is a sensitive little person. (I have no idea where she got that from! haha).  She is shy and timid and slow to open up.  When she does, she gives all of herself, but it’s getting there that is the challenge.  We felt that one more year in Pre-K would give her the opportunity to grow in her social skills and self confidence.  I know in my gut it was the right decision for her.  We just got a letter in the mail today from her new teacher and she has made me read it about a thousand times over!  She is so excited to see some of her old classmates from last year, and meet some new ones too!

We took a trip to Famous Footwear to get ALL of us some new kicks for the season.  Needless to say, we went a little Converse crazy!  Sam has been wearing cons for as long as I’ve known him.  Of course, Cru is a mini Sam, so we got him a new pair of black chucks to match dad.  And Ry wanted to be like me with new leather white ones!  I guess Sam’s style has rubbed off on all of us :)  I’m wearing the new Chuck Taylor All Star High Top Sneaker in all white.  With all the running around bringing the kids to and from school, dance classes, play dates, ect, it’s nice to have a pair of shoes that are comfy and adapt to my on-the-go lifestyle.  I used to be a heels gal, boy has that changed!  I think we are all ready for school to start and to have our schedule back again!  Super excited for my girl and all the fun things in store for her this school year!  Let’s do this! Oh and make sure to check out my instagram to enter to win $100 gift card to spend at Famous Footwear this season!

Thank you to Famous Footwear for kindly sponsoring this post. All opinions are 100% honest & completely my own.

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that I always feel good in black.  Which is why if you were ever to look in my closet, that is most of what you’d find.  I love this set by St Roche from Plan De Ville >  Top  //  Skirt.  I love that this skirt is a mini hidden under a midi.  The lattice-like fabric gives it just the right amount of femininity.

Rylee turned 5 a couple weeks ago and we celebrated with a fairy princess party per her request!  She wanted everything pink and purple, so with that in mind, I did my best to create a little bit of magic for her on her special day.  We surprised her with this amazing dress by Tutu Du Monde the night before….you should have seen her face!  I swear, it’s been two weeks since her party and she has worn it at some point every single day since she got it.  Needless to say, she loves it.  We had the party at a park by our house, which always creates a challenge with food and drinks and set up, but we pulled it together last minute with some help from some sweet friends.  She invited a handful of her favorite pals and they just played together at the park, opened presents, talked about princess things and ate yummy treats made by Sweet & Saucy Shop.  I mean, how pretty is that cake!!?  And those little gem cake pops!  As much as I love to make birthdays special (and pretty!) for my kids, I’ve realized over the years that they don’t need anything extravagant or over-the-top.  As long as we make them feel loved and special (and remember the cake and presents), they are happy campers.  I suppose the planning and the decorations are just as much for me as they are for her!  Rylee loves to craft with me so she helped me make all the gold leaf crowns we handed out to her friends along with the wands and “pixie dust” bottles!  Sam and I always laugh about how ‘gifts’ are definitely her love language.  Year around she is pretending it is Christmas or someones birthday just so she can have a “party” and wrap presents.  I’ve never seen a kid like presents more than she does.  But what I love more is that she loves to GIVE gifts as well.  I think she is learning that as wonderful as it is to receive a gift, sometimes it feels even better to give one!  I am just so so proud of this girl.  She is growing up far more quickly than I’d like, but I love watching her grow into the beautiful person that she is.  She makes me really proud to be her mom, and I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for her!

Happy birthday Ry.  Love you to the moon kid.  xx

My family had the chance to sneak away for a bit this weekend and head to one of our favorite places on earth, Palm Springs.  I’ve been vacationing there since I’ve been a little girl, so it still feels a bit nostalgic to me.  It’s such a short easy trip from San Diego and there is just something about the warm desert sun and lounging by the pool all day that we just love.  Sam and I have been working our tails off the last few months, so this vacation was just what we needed to unwind and unplug for a bit.

We stayed at an incredible Airbnb called the Junipero.  It ‘s one of the three inspired spaces that make up the Desert Collective.  It’s a beautifully renovated Spanish Colonial compound that has a main house (which we stayed in) and three individual suites.  No one else was staying there at the time, so we had the whole space to ourselves for three days which was really nice.  Sam and I were saying how perfect this place would be for an event or company retreat or even family reunion.  The kids had a blast at the pool and with the giant pool floaties they provided.  We never even wanted to leave the house other than for coffee one morning at Earnest!  (also, Postmates to the rescue!).  I guess that’s what vacations are for though right!  An excuse to do a whole lot of nothing!  And get a little too sunburnt while we are at it (mom fail). Thanks for the stay Junipero, we will definitely be back!
